Hemp is illegal to grow in the U.S.A. without a D.E.A. permit-of-approval, which is about as easy to get as the Marijuana Tax Stamp was in 1939. So, for those of eating our hemp granola bars, scrubbing our bodies and dishes with Dr. Bronner's Magical Hemp Soap, clothing our bodies with hemp linens, living in our hempcrete houses, and fueling our hemp-bodied cars with hemp biodiesel, we're really helping out Canada's hemp market. We import all hemp mainly from Canada. It doesn't grow here, but we import it more than any other country probably because we're the only country that prohibits its cultivation.
American soil is eroding like our economy and our supply of once-abundant resources (timber, petroleum) pose toxic collateral damage. Hemp may be THE solution to kick-start our economy, our soil, and our livelihood. Hemp is a restorative and timeless commodity of trade. As Chris Conrad puts it, hemp is our "Lifeline to the future," but it has its root deep within our Nation's past.
It use to be mandatory to grow. Now, if you grow hemp in U.S.A., you're breaking federal law.
Watch this amazing cast of hemp advocates explain how cannabis-hemp, if reclaimed by Americans, could help us get out of the holes we've dug. If you want to take back your country, take back hemp. It helped found this place we call "home." It's time to restore its name.
